A September wedding gives you the best of it: the lake stays warm into October, the crowds fall away sharply after the first week, and the hotels that were impossible in July have space and attention to give you. A June wedding hands you the opposite, a beautiful but crowded lake, and it is often better to take a few days here and go elsewhere for the rest.
On length, three to four nights is the honest answer for the lake alone. It is small, the pleasures are slow, and a week of nothing but Como can start to feel like a lot of boat timetables.
